Copacking Services for the small to mid sized Companies 2019-04-17T13:57:15-07:00

The current demand for cold brew coffee, specialty tea and innovative craft beverages is through the roof. The opportunity is tremendous, and the consumer market and grocery buyers are constantly looking for new offerings . . .

The key to success is to find the right partner to help you scale up, respond to market demand, and adapt with you as your business grows.

The Problem for the Small Operation

Quantity – Manufacturing Throughput / Scale
Quality – Raw Materials / Finished Goods
Safety – GMP / FDA / HACCP
Skill – Operations Expertise

Most coffee shops, tea shops, beverage startups, and artisan food businesses soon find out the biggest impediment to getting out of the gate isn’t just manufacturing throughput or scale, but a mix of related factors that are unfamiliar to them:

    • Quantity Issues: Building enough, flexibility in customer demand patterns, projected growth/capacity

    • Quality Issues: Raw materials quality and sourcing, Finished product QC details unique to your product

    • Safety Issues: Good mfg practice in a FDA inspected facility, Wholesale food mfg / resale based, hygienic food grade equipment and process controls, strong and specific cleaning processes

  • Manufacturing Expertise: Resource planning, operations experience, equipment knowledge

The results of the big copackers (cold brew coffee, tea and craft bevs) are less than stellar, and the quantities required are far beyond any small to mid sized organization:

Cold Brew Coffee

Currently, there are no real contract manufacturing solutions for cold brew coffee… Unless you want to compromise of Quality, Quantity, and Delivery time

  • Because the product doesn’t lend itself well to traditional mixing on the fly production like sodas and other beverages, current beverage co-packers require that you use their concentrates, resulting in cheap, awful quality.
  • The minimums for co-packers are typically 100,000 units at the very minimum, with very high costs.
  • Their production availability can be a 6 month wait (or more).

Tea

The market for RTD tea is always strong. Innovations and totally new products continue to fly off shelves. Getting your product out there, and accommodating the growth is key

    • Quality tea is not a priority for large contract manufacturing operations.
    • Time of extraction, temperature and agitation technique are not typically available.
  • Packaging is almost always in glass, with very limited choices.

Craft RTD

Once you leave traditional beverages (Soda, Tea and Coffee) you find the wild west of RTD products. Specialty beverages require flexible and specialized frameworks, good science and consulting (we have some references).

  • Short run one offs
  • The minimums for co-packers are typically 100,000 units at the very minimum, with very high costs.
  • Their production availability can be a 6 month wait (or more).

Cold Brew Coffee Copacking by a Specialty Coffee Company

Cold Craft aims to bridge the gap between the small cafe, the small wholesaler/roaster, and the multi-site cafes who want to get into cold brewed coffee without building out a completely different business unit, or reselling someone else’s leftover stale coffee. We help you develop specialty cold brewed coffee, and get it to market using a Project Based Copacking approach..

Cold Craft is currently building a facility in Southern California to manufacture our whole beverage line, as well as accommodate strategic partnerships for copacking cold brewed coffee. Using our extensive experience sourcing, roasting, and brewing coffee, Cold Craft can provide full service copacking for your cold brewed coffee, tea, and other RTD beverage products.
